Casualties Union - Furness Branch
2008
Welcome to Casualties Union Furness Branch
Casualties Union Furness Branch is here to assist in the training of a First Aider and medical professionals.
Our group is one of many diverse groups within Casualties Union, we are made up of all ages, giving us the best mix of experience and youth. We have no set dates to join and training continues twice a week all year round.
Our work is made up of small First Aid training scenarios to allow local First Aid trainers the opportunity to see how the classes react to a live, injured casualty, right through to doctors examinations where quick thinking and doing the right thing is the difference between life and death.
Mondays are the official training night but, due to BAE Systems providing First Aid courses on a Wednesday, we have the chance to practice and interact with people treating us.
Some of our members have had the opportunity to work with the doctors from the World Health Organisation. An exercise which took place in Paris at the end of 2004 was designed to show medical staff how easily infections can spread from patient to doctor. Our skills have also lead to Television work which was seen by audiences all over the UK.
We are always willing to help out and we make an interesting attraction for a public speech to a group or society or even a stand at a gala day.
"The enthusiastic and motivated performance given by those involved played a large part in creating realism"
Nick Duriez,
Operations Manager Barton Aerodrome
